Just as I was finishing drama school, I found out I was pregnant with my first daughter.

Hi, I’m Clare. I help hair and makeup artists perfect their technique and develop their businesses to work faster, gain confidence, and earn more doing what they love.
With over 26 years in the industry, I’ve transformed my own career into a company that now operates 95% through referrals. Along the way, I developed the Simple Skilful Stylist Strategy — a straightforward, effective system that blends technical skill with client psychology and strong business practices. It’s blossomed into a well-known brand in hair and makeup.

My Story
My journey into freelance artistry began early. When I was about four years old, I traveled with my grandma, a mobile hairdresser. Those memories are some of my fondest, and I guess you could say hairstyling is in my blood.
After school, I trained as a hairdresser and beauty therapist. I loved styling but struggled with colouring and some of the more technical sides of beauty. My teacher once told me the finish of my styles was “so professional,” and that moment gave me hope when I wasn’t sure hairdressing was right for me. Luckily, the hair and beauty world offers many avenues.
I started by helping friends and family with hair and makeup for special events—though I never imagined it could be a career. Along the way, I worked at an Elizabeth Arden makeup counter, which was my first real experience with makeup artistry. Welcome to the world of creativity!
Launching Harry Jon
In 2009, trusting my gut, I launched Harry Jon. I jumped into photoshoots and wedding fairs to get my name out there. I vividly remember my first wedding fair: tight timing and a model with the shortest, heaviest layered cut I’d ever seen. My plan for a simple dome bun was shattered, and panic set in. But I pulled out my first hair-up training—the Classic Pleat—and made it work. The style stayed flawless through bridal catwalk dress changes, and the bridal shop’s best friend (the model) raved about it. That moment launched a decade of work with that bridal shop.
At the same event, the makeup artist didn’t gel with the team, so I was asked to do both hair and makeup next time. That became the best showcase of my work and pushed me forward.
Growing Through Challenges
Starting out, I was terrified of messing up or being rejected. But I was better than I thought—I banished nerves by practicing relentlessly. I challenged myself with the hardest hair types: learning to create volume in fine hair, make hair-ups last, perfect curls, and maintain styles that drop naturally but beautifully.
I’ve also mastered how to keep a busy room calm—a skill that has even drawn praise from venues and photographers.
My Method and Strategy
I developed a simple, effective way of working to keep great time management, get amazing client feedback, and create a relaxed, positive atmosphere. Behind the scenes, I built a strategy that balances life and work, so I’m not constantly overwhelmed with emails or chasing clients.

- Weekly Zoom Sessions
Every Monday evening, we meet live on Zoom with Clare. We use Zoom so we can connect face-to-face in real time, giving you direct access to advice and coaching. We dive into a new module that forms the backbone of your business, helping you grow in whichever direction you choose. - Pre-Recorded Hair Sessions
Each week, you’ll receive a pre-recorded hairstyling session via email. Complete it at your own pace—when it suits you best. - Live Q&A Sessions
After each training, join a live Q&A to ask any questions about hairstyling or business, so nothing is left unclear. - Ongoing Support
Clare is available in the support group Monday through Friday to help you overcome challenges and celebrate your progress
