My first experience and memory of being a freelance artist was travelling around with my Grandma, I could have only been about 4yrs old. She was a mobile hairdresser and I have such fond memories of that growing up... So, I

suppose its in my blood.

I trained as a hairdresser and beauty therapist at college when I left school. I didn't really enjoy it, something didn't quite fit for me. I struggled with the technical numbers and technique of colouring, beauty was a bit vanilla but I loved styling.

I remember the teacher saying how the finish of my styles was so professional. It made my heart sing at a time when I was a bit lost and not sure if hairdressing was the right fit for me. But there are so many avenues to hair and beauty now. 

I worked on hair and makeup looks, helping friends and friends of friends get ready. Watching them beam as they went off to events - but I

didn't think THAT could be a career!

I had an array of jobs including working on a makeup counter for Elizabeth Arden. Which was my first REAL experience in makeup.

I trusted my gut, took what I knew and gave it my all and I launched Harry Jon in 2009.

Jumping into photoshoots & wedding fayres to get myself known.

I remember the first wedding fayre I did. I had a plan of action because timing was so tight. Wow, did I have to think on my feet.

One of the models had the most heavy layered cut I'd ever seen and I'd planned to do a simple dome bun -  she literally didn't have enough hair.

Time was running out and inside my head I was shouting WHAT DO I DO!!!

I pulled it out of the bag though, making the short layers stay in place and calling on my very first training in hairup - The Classic Pleat.

They were blown away by how well it stayed in place - even through dress changes on the bridal catwalk.

That model, just happened to be the bridal shops best friend. They we're that impressed that I went on to work with that for the next 10 years (I

still do from time to time)

The makeup artist that worked that first catwalk didn't gel with the team, so I was called in to do hair AND makeup next time.

It ended up the best showcase of my work.

I was so scared starting out, of flopping. People not liking my work but I was so much better than I gave myself credit for. I banished those

nerves by learning. I would pick out the hardest hair types to work with, just practice. Teaching myself how to create volume in fine hair, how to make hairup last for ages, obsessed with curls and hair that dropped quickly.

I've worked out how to keep a room so chilled that even the venue and photographer comment on the relaxed environment!

How to work magic on fine hair or those fine but alot of it, where people are so blown away at your skills they literally cry!

I've a simple way of working to have good time keeping and get amazing feedback.

AND a strategy behind the scenes that keeps the balance in your life so your not continually working and writing emails or chasing clients.
